Assessment

Upon receipt of an IDF, OLV should contact you within three weeks to discuss the invention and begin the assessment phase.

The assessment phase typically lasts one to three months and, ultimately, involves setting forth a plan of action.

Initially, the invention is evaluated based upon a number of criteria such as patentability and marketability.

Depending upon the assessment, the course of action may be to:

  • Submit a patent and begin marketing invention
  • Wait for additional data to increase chance of success
  • Market without protection (i.e., often for biological reagents)
  • Decline management
