A high-throughput method for measuring bacterial growth rates

Current approaches for measuring growth rates of individual microbes from mixed communities involves manually isolating and creating growth curves for each individual bacteria. This standard practice is impractical for the enormous diversity of microbes found in natural environments or within hosts. We describe a massively-parallel assay for isolating bacteria from complex communities and measuring their growth rates in a given environmental condition.
