Dinesh Divakaran PhD, MBA
Director, Digital Innovations
Dinesh Divakaran, PhD, MBA, serves as Director, Digital Innovations with Duke’s Office of Licensing & Ventures (OLV). In this role, he leads the commercialization of digital, high tech and emerging tech innovations (software/IT, data, content and creative works) from R&D, QI/QA, and innovation activities across Duke Health and Duke University through technology licenses, innovative ventures, strategic alliances, and tactical collaborations. He also directly manages a portfolio of technologies including AI/ML/IoT, digital health, SaMD, health IT, clinical informatics, imaging, diagnostics, pathology, telemedicine, bioinformatics, genomics, data analytics, computer science, high tech, ed-tech, fin-tech, supply chain, and logistics.
Outside of working in technology transfer, Dr. Divakaran also had a short stint in venture capital as a fellow with the Alumni Ventures Group. He joined Duke OLV in late 2015 after having worked as the Associate Director of Technology Transfer at North Carolina State University (NCSU). At NCSU, he lead a group of licensing executives and directed commercialization efforts across engineering, IT, materials, textiles, physical sciences, design, arts, and humanities. Prior to working at NCSU, he worked in technology transfer at the Texas A&M University System and the University of South Florida (USF). Dr. Divakaran also served as an adjunct assistant professor at NCSU and USF and collaborated as a co-investigator on research translation projects. He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering with a Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship from USF and his MBA in Innovation & Finance from NCSU. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, Eta Kappa Nu honor societies.
