Dinesh Divakaran PhD, MBA
Dinesh Divakaran, PhD, MBA, is responsible for managing Duke’s innovation portfolio in the areas of health informatics, bioinformatics, telemedicine, mobile health and medical technologies (devices, imaging and diagnostics). He joined Duke’s Office of Licensing & Ventures after having worked as the Associate Director of the Office of Technology Transfer at North Carolina State University.
Divakaran brings to Duke OLV broad expertise in commercializing software and IT innovation across the sciences, humanities, business, and arts. His experience includes managing innovation, strategizing IP assets, translating research, accelerating commercialization, building business models, licensing technologies, catalyzing seed-stage startups and developing strategic alliances between academia, industry, and government.
Prior to NC State, Divakaran worked in technology transfer at the Texas A&M University System and the University of South Florida. He also collaborated in research activities at NC State and USF as a co-investigator and adjunct faculty in electrical & computer engineering. Divakaran stays engaged in research development by serving as a reviewer/panelist with the Small Business Innovation Research and Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) grant programs at both NIH and NSF. He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering with a Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the University of South Florida and his MBA from North Carolina State University. Divakaran is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, and Eta Kappa Nu.
